PSP Updates - how many versions of PSP are there?
There aren't that many actually, well, that you should care anyway.
First
of all, there are 3 types of packages: the gigapack, the value pack, and the
core (or standard pack). The major differences are noted in the table
below. The systems are EXACTLY the same, the differences lie in the
accessories included. For details of accessories included in each package,
you can click into the product detail page to find out.
Then, there are
regions. The good news is that there are no region locks for games - in
other words, PSP games purchased anywhere can be played on any region systems,
unlike the PS2 or Xbox games. However, movies on UMD disc native format
are regionally coded, in the same way coded as DVD's. For the US and North
America, that's region 1, UK, Europe and Japan, region 2, Australia is region 4.
Most of our machines are region 2 machines (except for the 1.5 firmware one,
which is region 1). There are ways to get around this issue and have
region 2 machines watch movies, you can found that information on many PSP
forums.
Finally, the colors. At this time of writing, the Ceramic
White color PSP's are only available in Japan, well, and RenChi.com of course!
