A scenic love story set in Taiwan's breezy southern port of Kaohsiung, the film takes on an almost documentary style as the camera follows the two protagonists through a wistful tour of the city and their hearts. Partly funded by the Kaohsiung city government as a means to promote tourism, Sumimasen, Love certainly does its job, painting a gorgeous backdrop with the sights and sounds of the city. Other than the two stars, all other cast members in the film are Kaohsiung locals, adding to the story's warmth and realism. Sumimasen, Love also rounds up some of Taiwan Cinema's best behind-the-scenes talents like Formula 17 and Twenty Thirty Forty producer Roger Huang, Blue Gate Crossing art director Hsia Shao Yu, and Golden Horse-nominated composer Cheng Wei Chieh.
Hoping to escape Taipei and acting for a while, Japanese actress Chie runs off to Kaohsiung by herself for a one-day excursion. There she meets film projectionist and aspiring director Huai Chung, who lends her a helping hand and $500 after she loses her wallet. Convinced that their encounter is destined, Huai Chung asks Chie to write her name and number on the $500 bill. In this game of fate, the day the bill returns to Huai Chung is when they'll meet again...
